Bleach is one of the original Big Three shonen alongside Naruto and One Piece — and unlike the other two, it has a definitive endpoint. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc, which serves as the series' true finale, has now been fully animated in one of the most celebrated anime revivals in recent history.
If you want to watch Bleach in 2026, this is the exact order to follow. I have included a filler guide, notes on which films are essential, and where TYBW fits.
The Complete Bleach Watch Order
Phase 1: The Original Series (2004–2012)
The original Bleach anime ran for 366 episodes over eight years. It adapts the manga through the first four arcs, then ends abruptly before the TYBW arc — which at the time had not yet been completed in the manga.
The original series contains a significant amount of filler — episodes created to give the manga time to get ahead that are not part of the original story. Whether to watch filler is a personal choice, but I recommend skipping the major filler arcs and watching only the canon episodes.
The core arcs in order:
Agent of the Shinigami Arc (Episodes 1–20) The introduction. Ichigo Kurosaki gains Soul Reaper powers and learns about the world of spirits. Essential — do not skip.
Soul Society: The Entry Arc (Episodes 21–41) Ichigo and friends invade the Soul Society to rescue Rukia. This arc is where Bleach becomes exceptional. The antagonist structure, the reveals, the pacing — all exceptional. Essential.
Soul Society: The Rescue Arc (Episodes 42–63) The conclusion of the Soul Society arc. The Aizen reveal at the end of this arc is one of the best villain introductions in shonen. Essential.
The Bount Arc (Episodes 64–109) FILLER — SKIP. The entire Bount arc is anime-original. Skip Episodes 64-109 and resume at Episode 110.
Arrancar Arc (Episodes 110–167) Aizen's army of Arrancars arrives. The power system expands significantly. Essential.
Hueco Mundo Arc (Episodes 168–189) Ichigo and friends invade Aizen's fortress. Essential.
Bount Assault on Soul Society (skip) Already covered in the Bount arc skip above.
The New Captain Arc (Episodes 190–203) FILLER — SKIP. Resume at Episode 204.
Arrancar vs. Shinigami (Episodes 204–212) Essential.
The Fake Karakura Town Arc (Episodes 213–214, then 266–310) IMPORTANT: Episodes 215–265 are the Zanpakuto Unknown Tales filler arc — SKIP. Jump from Episode 214 to Episode 266.
The Fake Karakura Town confrontation is the climax of the Aizen arc. Essential.
Fullbring Arc (Episodes 340–366) The final arc of the original series. Lower stakes than what came before but provides closure for several characters. Essential for context going into TYBW.
Episodes 311–341 contain mixed filler — the Gotei 13 Invading Army arc (311–342 minus a few canon episodes). Skip 317–342 and watch only the canon episodes listed on a filler guide if you want precision.
Phase 2: The Films
Bleach: Memories of Nobody (2006) — Non-canon filler film. Skip.
Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion (2007) — Non-canon filler film. Skip.
Bleach: Fade to Black (2008) — Non-canon filler film. Skip.
Bleach: Hell Verse (2010) — Non-canon filler film. Skip.
None of the Bleach films are canon. You can safely skip all four.
Phase 3: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War (2022–2025)
TYBW is the reason to watch Bleach in 2026. Studio Pierrot produced this final arc with a budget and visual ambition that the original series never received, and the result is one of the best anime revivals ever made.
Watch TYBW after completing the original series through the Fullbring Arc (Episode 366).
TYBW Part 1: The Blood Warfare (2022) — 13 episodes. The Sternritter invade the Soul Society for the first time. Ichigo learns the truth about his origins.
TYBW Part 2: The Separation (2023) — 13 episodes. Ichigo trains. The Sternritter return. Several Captains fight the most powerful Sternritter in their most memorable moments.
TYBW Part 3: The Conflict (2024) — 13 episodes. Yhwach vs. Yamamoto. The most visually stunning episodes of the arc.
TYBW Part 4: The Final Arc (2025) — The concluding episodes. Ichigo vs. Yhwach. The series ends.
Simplified Watch Order
For casual viewers who want the core story without filler:
1. Episodes 1–63 (Agent of Shinigami + Soul Society arcs) 2. Episodes 110–167 (Arrancar arc) 3. Episodes 168–189 (Hueco Mundo) 4. Episodes 204–214 (Arrancar vs. Shinigami) 5. Episodes 266–310 (Fake Karakura Town finale) 6. Episodes 340–366 (Fullbring arc) 7. TYBW Parts 1–4
This gives you the complete Bleach story in roughly 220 episodes instead of 366 — saving nearly 25 hours.
Is Bleach Worth Watching in 2026?
Yes — specifically because TYBW now exists as a complete work.
The original Bleach is uneven. The Soul Society arc is genuinely great shonen. The Arrancar arc is long but has strong moments. The Fullbring arc is the weakest original content. All of this is worth experiencing as setup for TYBW.
TYBW itself is exceptional. The visual quality is the best in the franchise by a significant margin. The payoffs for long-running character mysteries — particularly Ichigo's origins and Urahara's history — are satisfying. The final arc gives Bleach the conclusion the original anime never provided.
If you watched Bleach during its original run and dropped off before TYBW: go back. TYBW is the ending the series deserved and has been waiting for since 2012.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to watch all 366 episodes of the original series? No. Using the simplified watch order above, you can complete the essential story in approximately 220 episodes. The filler arcs add nothing to the main story and can be safely skipped.
Is TYBW a sequel or a continuation? Continuation. TYBW picks up directly after the Fullbring arc and adapts the manga chapters that were never animated in the original series. It is not a reboot or reimagining — it is the ending of the same story.
Where can I watch Bleach? The complete original series and all four parts of TYBW are available on Hulu in the US. Crunchyroll also has the complete series. Disney+ has TYBW in some international markets.
How long does it take to watch all of Bleach? At 24 minutes per episode: 366 original episodes = approximately 147 hours. 52 TYBW episodes = approximately 21 hours. Total with filler: approximately 168 hours. Without filler (220 episodes + TYBW): approximately 105 hours.
Is the Bleach English dub good? Yes. The Bleach English dub — produced by Viz Media — is considered one of the better dubs of its era. Johnny Yong Bosch's performance as Ichigo is the standout. Both dubbed and subtitled versions are available on the streaming platforms listed above.
