Demon Slayer has one of the more confusing release structures in recent anime. Between the TV series, the theatrical films, and the way some arc films overlap with the TV episodes, new viewers often do not know where to start or what order to watch things in.
This guide cuts through the confusion. Follow this order and you will watch everything correctly.
The Simple Version
If you just want to know the order without explanation:
1. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Season 1 (2019) 2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie — Mugen Train (2020) 3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Entertainment District Arc (Season 2, 2021–2022) 4. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Swordsmith Village Arc (Season 3, 2023) 5. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Hashira Training Arc (Season 4, 2024)
That is the complete watch order as of 2026.
Season 1 — Where Everyone Starts
Season 1 (26 episodes) covers the beginning of Tanjiro Kamado's story. His family is slaughtered by demons, with his sister Nezuko surviving but being transformed into a demon herself. Tanjiro becomes a Demon Slayer to find a cure for Nezuko and to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon who destroyed his family.
Season 1 covers the Final Selection arc, the Asakusa arc, the Tsuzumi Mansion arc, and the Spider Mountain arc. It ends with a battle against one of the Twelve Kizuki.
Watch this first. All of it. Do not skip.
The Mugen Train Movie — Watch After Season 1
The Mugen Train arc is the most important thing to understand about Demon Slayer's watch order. Here are your options:
Option A: Watch the theatrical film (approximately 117 minutes). This is the original version released in cinemas in 2020. It became the highest-grossing anime film of all time.
Option B: Watch the TV version. When Season 2 began, Ufotable released a 7-episode TV cut of the Mugen Train content. If you want to stay in "TV series mode," this works fine.
Do NOT skip Mugen Train. The events in this film are critical to understanding everything that comes after. Characters from this arc have major impacts on the rest of the series.
Entertainment District Arc — Season 2
After Mugen Train, the TV series continues with the Entertainment District arc. This follows Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke as they work with the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, on a mission in Yoshiwara — the red-light district of Tokyo.
The fight sequences in this arc are extraordinary — widely considered some of the best-animated combat in anime history. The final two episodes in particular are astonishing to watch.
This arc is approximately 11 episodes in the TV version (not counting the Mugen Train recap episodes).
Swordsmith Village Arc — Season 3
The Swordsmith Village arc focuses on Tanjiro visiting the village where Demon Slayer swords are made. Two of the most powerful Twelve Kizuki — Hantengu and Gyokko — attack. This arc develops the Love Hashira and the Mist Hashira significantly.
This season has 11 episodes. The animation quality continues to be exceptional.
Hashira Training Arc — Season 4 (2024)
Season 4 covers the Hashira Training arc, in which the Demon Slayers prepare for their final confrontation with Muzan Kibutsuji. This arc is shorter in the manga and the season reflects that — 8 episodes. It functions as buildup for the final conflict.
What Comes Next?
As of 2026, the Infinity Castle arc has been announced as a three-part theatrical film series. This covers the climax of the entire Demon Slayer story — the final battles. No release dates have been confirmed, but the first film is expected in the next year or two.

FAQ
Do I need to watch the Mugen Train movie or can I skip it? You cannot skip it. It covers an entire major arc that affects everything in Season 2 and beyond. Watch either the film or the TV version — but watch it.
Is the Demon Slayer dub good? Yes. The English dub produced by Aniplex is very well done. Zach Aguilar as Tanjiro, Aleks Le as Zenitsu, and Landon McDonald as Inosuke are all excellent. Danna Ong as Nezuko gives a remarkable performance given that the character almost never speaks.
How many episodes of Demon Slayer are there total? As of 2026: Season 1 (26) + Season 2 (18 including Mugen Train TV) + Season 3 (11) + Season 4 (8) = approximately 63 TV episodes, plus the theatrical film. The Infinity Castle films have not aired yet.
Is Demon Slayer finished? The manga is finished. The anime adaptation is ongoing with the Infinity Castle films still to come.
